Develop, Educate, Foster, Encourage, Stimulate

Our Mission

Sister Cities International, created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House summit on citizen diplomacy, is a nonpartisan nonprofit network that fosters bonds between people from different communities. The network has united tens of thousands of citizen diplomats and volunteers in 545 communities, with over 2,100 partnerships in 145 countries on six continents.

Develop

Develop international friendships by creating "citizen diplomats" and establishing peace with people-to-people contacts between countries.

Foster

Foster appreciation of the beauty and uniqueness of other cultures through the media of their art, music, dance and literature.

Educate

Educate young people in the cultural, academic and family life of other countries, through a variety of exchanges that create better understanding and mutual respect.

Encourage

Encourage understanding of people and their customs through the universal medium of sports and games.

Stimulate

Stimulate dialogue at the people-to-people level about commerce, science, government and human relations in the increasingly global environment.
